Head under the waves of False Bay and explore the incredible diversity that is found along the Western Cape. The bay has popular dive spots from diving amongst the biodiverse underwater kelp forests to jumping in with the playful and friendly cape fur sealions (Arctocephalus pusillus). The bay along with the rest of the South Africa coast is known for the range of shark species that are found from the shallow coastal shores out into the open oceans. The coast is also home to numerous endemic shark species such as puffadder shyshark (Haploblepharus edwardsii) and Pyjama shark.

One of the must-do dives of False Bay is to get into the water with the incredibly curious and playful Cape fur sealions (Arctocephalus pusillus). Just a short boat ride out from Simonstown is Partridge Point, a large boulder that is home to the colony of Cape fur sealions. Heading below the waves you are welcomed by tens of sealions who want to find out more about what’s going on where the more confident individuals will blow bubbles and bark. Throughout the dive sealions remain with you, the site ranges from large rocky outcrops into diving through the thick kelp forests. Many of the sealions are females however, the occasional bull sealion which are much larger can be seen at the site and will come for a closer look.

Diving with the local dive club – Cape Town Dive Centre.
